Panel chair at Global Forum on AI for Humanity
2019-10-21
Prof. Jun'ichi Tsujii, NaCTeM Scientific Advisor, chaired a session entitled Next big challenges in core AI technology at the Global Forum on AI for Humanity (GFAIH), held in Paris from October 28th -30th, 2019.
The GFAIH took place in the context of the forthcoming organisation of a Global Partnership on AI (GPAI), as decided at the last G7 summit. It will serve as the formal launch pad for GPAI and will inform GPAI Working Groups’ future agenda.
The GFAIH gathered experts from AI, social sciences, humanities, and engineering, as well as innovators, economic actors, policy makers and civil society representatives in order to:
- reach a common understanding of the perspectives brought by AI, of the challenges to be addressed, and the methods and tools for addressing them
- deliberate about projects, studies and social experiments that can lead to a corpus of shared knowledge and shape R&D agendas
- consider Global Partnership initiatives to put the progress of AI for the benefit of humankind
The GFAIH was organised under the auspices of the French governement.
For three days, some 400 attendees debated on AI’s human and scientific challenges: French President Emmanuel Macron delivered a speech on France’s position on AI research; the Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, Frédérique Vidal, as well as the Secretary of State for the Digital Sector, Cédric O, spoke to the audience. Altogether, more than 150 international speakers shared their views at round-table discussion.
A video retrospective and the photos of the forum are available. All the plenary sessions have been recorded, and are available on the dedicated playlist.
