XHPSG: Problems

• Parsing is faster than any existing TAG parsers, but still slow because of much lexical ambiguity.

  • “take” has more than 500 lexical entries
    • Necessity of introducing packing algorithm.

• Unsatisfactory coverage for Wall Street Journal

  • Some basic constructs are not supported in XTAG.
    • VP coordinations
  • Lack of necessary lexical entries
  • Symbols such as comma and quotation must be treated carefully, (e.g., apposition)
