NaCTeM mentioned in The Lancet
2015-06-30
NaCTeM has been mentioned in the Lancet, one of the world's oldest and most prestigious medical journals. The mention is in an article entitled Medical periodicals: mining the past, which explains how digitisation of historical medical journals can be advantageous for medical historians.
The article cites the work carried out on the Mining the History of Medicine project. This project, a collaboration between NaCTeM and the University of Manchester's Centre for the History of Science, Technology and Medicine (CHSTM), has demonstrated how applying text mining techniques to digitised historical medical archives can enhance efficient search. A major outcome of the project is the History of Medicine search engine, which provides semantically-enhanced search over the archives of the British Medical Journal (1840-present day) and the London-area Medical Officer of Health reports (1848-1972).
