NaCTeM quoted in Nature journal news
2013-03-20
John McNaught, deputy director of NaCTeM, has been quoted in a news article appearing in Nature, the international weekly journal of science.
The article concerns ongoing clashes between researchers and publishers about whether users have the right to text mine content that they have paid for.
Later this year, the UK Government will propose regulations to create a copyright exception for text mining for non-commercial purposes, and it is hoped that the EC will do the same. John McNaught adds: "The slogan that is doing the rounds among users currently is: 'the right to read is the right to mine'".
