NaCTeM at META-FORUM

2011-07-01

John McNaught, Deputy Director of NaCTeM, attended the Multilingual Europe Technology Alliance (META) Forum 2011 "Solutions for a Multilingual Europe", in Budapest, an official event of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The University of Manchester, through NaCTeM's involvement, is the UK hub for META-NET, the Network of Excellence comprising 47 research centres from 31 countries that is the driving force behind META, which is focussed on building the technological foundations of a multilingual European information society. This initiative aims to contribute strongly to the EC's Digital Agenda for Europe, one of the seven flagship initiatives of the Europe 2020 Strategy.

The University is also a partner, through NaCTeM, in METANET4U, a collaborating project of META-SHARE, an evolving network of repositories of language data, language technology-based tools and web services, aggregated in central catalogues enabling uniform search and access to resources. META-SHARE aims to be an open resource exchange infrastructure for stimulating research and innovation.
